history of graystone
Graystone Baptist Church was established in 1978 in Fairlea, West Virginia, with approximately twelve founding members who shared a vision of building a church firmly grounded in God's Word. As the congregation began to grow, the church met in several different locations, including a private home, a furniture store, and later the local Health Department.
As the ministry continued to expand, the founding members united in prayer, asking God to provide a permanent place they could call home. They faithfully gathered to pray on the very property where Graystone Baptist Church now stands. In His perfect timing, God answered those prayers by moving upon the heart of the landowner to donate the property for the church.
Since that time, Graystone Baptist Church has been a beacon of hope in the community, faithfully proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ and seeking to reach people both locally and beyond with the message of salvation. Throughout its history, God has richly blessed Graystone with faithful, godly leadership that has remained committed to the truth of Scripture and the mission of making disciples.
A special thank you to Pastor Youel Altizer for faithfully serving as the Pastor from 1987-2024. He and Mrs. Rita have faithfully served the Lord in our community and are leaving a legacy for the gospelsake.
